Preserve America City it was settled in the 1840’s by people from the Alsace Region of France. Castroville boasts 96
homes and structures, known as Settlement or Pioneer houses, built between 1844 and 1920.
Yet Castroville has so much more to offer visitors. The Castroville Regional Park, along the Medina River is a
favorite destination for hikers, with a dozen nature trails, and joggers. The park is not only a premier haven for birders
with over 160 species of birds but has one of only three butterfly gardens in the state with over 65 species of butterflies.
For RVers Castroville boasts an RV Park inside the Regional Park and a brand new Alsatian Resort.
Of course Castroville has great shopping and antiquing and for lunch or dinner has some of the best restaurants in the
region.
